Roma and the International Solidarity Week

Every year since 1998, the third week of November is dedicated to international solidarity. This offers thousands of people from all over France the opportunity to exchange views and explore the theme of solidarity and sustainable development.This year the week of International solidarity has started on 16 November and will continue until November 24.
On Saturday 16 November, a meeting has been organized by the Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (CCFD) in Saint-Denis, a suburban city in the North of Paris. As part of one of the evenings closing activities at Basilique of Saint-Denis was called “Meeting those that one calls Roms”. One of the representatives of Romano Butiq, a Romanian NGO that promotes anti-discrimination through cultural and educational activities, described the project of a museum of Rroms and their activities in supporting handcrafts among Rromani communities in Romania.
Two young Rroms from Romania, Ana-Maria Covaci and Nicolae Oita, both students, discussed with the people who attended the event about their life an experience in France.
The evening ended with a diner with French, African and Rromani dishes and a beautiful performance of Ćhave Sumnakune (Golden children), a dance troup of Rromani children.
