Roma are the people more often known as “Gypsies”,  a word with many uses and prejudicial meanings. Many Romani Americans are upset and disappointed by NY Gypsy Festival, an event run, and a business owned by non-Roma. It is a music event in which almost no Roma are hired as musicians or performers. Despite repeated offers by members of the Romani-American community, as well as by leading experts on Romani music and culture, the owners/organizers of the Festival have refused to allow information about real Roma to be made available at the event.
