Chikatar Het/out of the mud

RomaReact expresses the support of the today´s event Cikhatar het! Out of the mud! organized in Duchcov, Czech Republic as an answer for the anti-Roma sentiments in the city. The gathering aims is to decrease the negative tension in the city and "on the contrary it warns against the Workers' Party for Social Justice attempts to form ethnic hatred among the local population" as the organizers say in their press release
Nneo-Nazi and far-right activities are increasing over the time in the Czech Republic and influencing life of individuals as well the general population. It is due to the support of the negative image of Roma that many are changing their views on the peaceful co-living and are ready to support ill-minded ideas of those promoting violence and even Roma extermination.
On 22 June, Duchcov, a small town in the Norden Bohemia will have a lot of attention and should become a capital of the new era. Far right groups are organizing there the march against the Roma people and in the same time, civic association Konexe together with the initiative Otrokem rasy (Slave of the race) are organizing happening with workshops for children, musical performances and dance. The idea of the happening is not to be afraid, but to dance and by showing the positive of Romani culture to break down prejudices and stereotypes and offer the space for a mutual understanding and improvement of the neighbour relations.
There has not been such a positive initiative in the past. Far-right groups were marching in the Czech cities over a hundred times. City was always filled with the tension for many days before and after. We should not fear to go out in our neighbourhood and fear to let our children play outside the house on those days. We need to seek an alternative, declare our space and offer it to all! Cikhatar het! Out of the mud! is doing so and RomaReact fully support this approach.
Special support and thanks go to Ivanka Mariposa Conkova, who is part of our RomaReact support team and who showed bravery and will to change things. RomaReact!! Roma Opre!!!
