Albania has always been an example for human rights

Albania has always been an example for human rights. We urge the Assembly to discuss the recommendations of the Ombudsman for the Roma issues
U.S. Ambassador to Albania Alexander Arvizu said that Parliament should be encouraged to discuss the Ombudsman's proposals for Roma rights. "Referring to the universal declaration of human rights, is an assessment that all people are born having equal rights and inalienable. Albania has always been an example for human rights. We urge the Assembly to discuss the recommendations of the Ombudsman for the Roma issue. Perfection is hard to achieve any nation. We must always continue to strive towards a more perfect union and I think the same is true in Albania, "said the ambassador.
“This is an advisory board at the Ombudsman. It will aim to institutionalize what we have been looking for in 20 years, and that we haven’t been able to achieve. A constant dialogue between the Albanian institutions and the civil society, so that we can discuss and recognize the citizens’ problems. It will guarantee dialogue, communication between us, and more importantly, it will guarantee an all-inclusive decision making”, Totozani declared.
One day before December 10th, date on which the UN Assembly announced the Declaration of Human Rights, the Ombudsman united representatives of the civil society, ministers, representatives of the diplomatic body in Tirana, to find a solution for the violation of human rights in special groups such as children, women, isolated families, the LGBT and disabled people, who have not been paid for months.
“We are facing a very difficult moment. The disabled people have not received their pensions for month. I can’t directly blame this government, because this phenomenon has been happening for a very long time. The end of the year finds these people always in these conditions. I propose a shared responsibility, even financial. The entire society should feel responsible, even financially, starting with me”, Totozani declared.
The two-day conference has been organized in different panels, and for every problem there will be representatives from the Parliament and the respective ministers. Totozani underlined that this political and civil debate will be annual.
